Westbound &#38;amp; Down












This taproom transforms two existing buildings in a Wheat Ridge neighborhood into the new flagship location of Westbound &#38;amp; Down Brewing Company. A drive lane that formerly separated the buildings becomes an internal courtyard that connects dining spaces within the two buildings. The west building includes a cantilevered roof deck and canopy which hovers over the existing building. New architectural elements share a unified material palette that differentiates them from the existing buildings. A new entry portal connects the two structures and becomes the project’s front door.

The focus when designing the interior of the space was to create a warm, approachable, and culinary focused take on the brewpub. Westbound &#38;amp; Down has an established material palette of light wood and white subway tile backsplashes at their other locations. The interior of this newest location uses those materials in new ways to provide a comfortable and thoughtful experience.

	Cherry Creek Residence




This project is the redesign of an existing 6,000 square-foot residence located in a quiet Cherry Creek neighborhood. Originally built in 2000, the home’s new owner sought a reimagined layout and thoughtful material selections. The ground level was fully renovated to create a more open flow between the kitchen, dining, and living spaces, all with a strong connection to the exterior through large multi-panel sliding doors.

The home’s design was informed by the its original rounded entry foyer, proximity to the neighborhood’s green space, and the owner’s desire for more connected layout. New entry arches lead from the existing round foyer to a curved stair and central hearth, each continuing the sculptural forms of the foyer. A large 18-foot-wide multi-slide glass door connects the new kitchen, dining, and living spaces to the adjacent garden.

The second level hosts a new primary suite relocated from the ground floor. The bedroom ceilings are raised and a new primary bathroom includes individualized vanities and a shower/tub zone with terrazzo tiling and accent lighting.

isoA/D worked with the client on the interior design of finish and fixture selections. Finishes throughout are a restrained palette of dark wood flooring, white oak millwork, textured plaster, and sculptural lighting that showcase the use of each room. A new elevator was added to provide the owners with long term accessibility.

	Wheat Ridge Passive























This high-performance home in Wheat Ridge is set within a secluded, forested site and designed to meet the rigorous Passive House thermal envelope standards. Referencing the agrarian history of the site, the design's simple form and standing seam cladding is elevated through accent materials and detailing. The house was constructed using precision-engineered panels fabricated off-site by Collective Carpentry, ensuring both efficiency and quality. Its airtight envelope and advanced insulation minimize energy use.

Albion Aesthetic Dentistry
A young dentist was looking to renovate an existing dental
practice located in a 1970’s era office tower in Denver, Colorado. The existing
space was a corner unit and featured expansive views west toward the Rocky
Mountains and downtown Denver. Due to the nature of the existing layout, these
views were restricted to individual rooms along the perimeter of the space. The
corner window of the unit was occupied by the dental lab, sterilization, and
storage.&#38;nbsp; This was an area only accessible
to staff and created inefficiencies with accessing supplies while seeing
patients.

The focus when designing this space was to provide access to
views and natural light throughout the office. It was also important to
reposition the sterilization area to a central location that would better serve
the operatories. The new layout reduces the circulation space of the unit in
half, which creates space for an additional operatory. This allows the dentist
to see 25% more patients. &#38;nbsp;

The budget for the project was modest, so materials were
selected that were accessible and have proven longevity. Birch became the
central material of the space, providing warmth and underscoring the abundance
of natural light. Partitions are held off the of exterior wall in order to
increase daylighting and help the 1,100 square foot office feel larger. A line
of curtains along this exterior wall creates a cohesive element between the
operatories and unifies the space.

	Courtyard House





















The primary residence on this urban infill site is designed
as a series of volumes that feature outdoor terraces and interior courtyards.
The terraces and courtyards bring natural light and nature into the center of
the home and integrate the concept of outdoor living within each space. The ground
floor is clad in stack bond brick, anchoring the home to its site and connecting
it to the material history of Denver. A lattice of brick screens an interior
garden from the street, providing privacy for the living room while still
promoting a connection to the outdoors. The upper volume overhangs the base and
is clad in a finely textured plaster pierced by wood clad windows.

	Wash Park Workshop


Designed to adapt to the owner’s changing needs, this space can serve as a garage, art studio, home gym, office, guest house, workshop, greenhouse, and eventually an ADU. While the site isn’t currently zoned for accessory dwelling units, the building was designed to conform to the current accessory structure guidelines with future flexibility to convert to an ADU once anticipated zoning changes are instated. The design features a large north-facing polycarbonate skylight that washes the space in natural light.&#38;nbsp;

Due to the limited project budget, a restrained material palette informed by off-the-shelf building materials was implemented in the design. This corrugated metal cladding is refined with considered detailing at the facade and exterior openings. At the interior, polycarbonate, perforated metal, and clear-sealed plywood bring warmth and texture to the space.

isoA/D worked with the owners of city mud to transform an existing space within a 1904 building into a pottery studio and classroom. Located in the Highland neighborhood of Denver, the space serves as a 24-hour membership studio for ceramicists. The space required updates for business operations, including a new accessible restroom and updated division for storage/kiln room. The owner installed glazing to the existing oversized service doors to open the space up to the street and maximize natural light. A significant amount of custom storage and shelving is provided for users to store active projects. city mud provides a much-needed community and cultural service to this transforming neighborhood.

	Northside ADU&#38;nbsp;

This design creates a singular identity for an ADU and removes it from the current stigma of being a ‘tiny house’ in someone’s backyard. The design moves the main entry away from the backyard and towards the alley, providing a public face to the unit. Taking cues from the city’s current material history, ground-face CMU, a black wood rainscreen, and a blackened steel datum define the sleeping, living, and entry zones.

The ADU is situated in a landscaped courtyard to give residents a connection to their own private outdoor space separate from the original backyard. Access to light and views maintains privacy from the alley. This project is currently under development.

	The ADU includes a carport sheltered by a solar panel canopy, and a private landscaped courtyard. Connection from interior space to private outdoor space gives access to light and views while maintaining privacy from the alley.

	Wash Park Addition

Located in Denver’s Washington Park neighborhood, this project is a full interior renovation and second story addition to an existing 1905 brick bungalow. The design preserves the home’s brick façade in its natural color. Over the new second story, a pitched roof complements the neighborhood’s residential scale and forms while creating three second story bedrooms for this home.

Above the existing brick ground level, a wood-clad second story brings a warm material, contrasting new to existing. A recesssed metal channel provides a reveal between the existing and new. An open interior stair, and wood interior elements within the second story addition, further introduce tactility to the home.&#38;nbsp;
